AFTER his huge replica of private stately home Aynhoe Park in Oxfordshire was featured on television, its cake-making owner has seen enquiries and bookings for his bespoke cakes treble.
Gareth Jones, of the Odiham Cake Company, appeared on BBC2’s The Millionaire’s Gift Guide early in the new year with his £10,000 cake for an extravagant children’s party.
It took 200 hours to make and included 10 kilos of sugar, 10 kilos of flour, 10 kilos of butter, eight kilos of Belgian chocolate, 200 eggs, and 40 kilos of fondant icing.
The Millionaire’s Gift Guide gave viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the lavish spending habits of the super rich, including an out-of-this-world children’s Christmas party organised by party planners Dazzle & Fizz.
Since his television debut, Gareth has been overwhelmed with the response. Enquiries for the bespoke cake business, along with visits to the website, have trebled in only a few days.
Gareth said: “The response from the BBC2 documentary has been incredible.
“We were hopeful that the programme would have a positive effect on sales, but we weren’t expecting to close our books for January less than a week into the new year, especially when after Christmas it can be a quiet time.”
