FOR the first time, Farnham’s youth floorball teams have brought home every trophy available to them.
The U13 Shooting Stars and U16 Farnham Fireballs won their respective competitions at the National Youth Floorball Cup in Cheltenham. And these cups will go alongside the U13 and U16 TCL Youth League trophies which the teams have already won this season.
Shooting Stars and Fireballs have both won National Cups in previous years, but never in the same season.
The Farnham teams scored 279 goals in 55 matches on one memorable day, Sunday June 18. The Shooting Stars won eight matches and drew one, while the Fireballs won four and drew one, both teams earning their silverware by remaining unbeaten.
Although Rory Campbell-Brady was awarded top U13 goalkeeper prize, it was Fireballs keeper Charlie Rixon who stunned the crowded hall when she saved four out of five penalties in her team’s final match. Alas, penalty shots don’t count towards goalkeeper stats, not even penalties during normal time.
Many new teams were competing in the event, including a scratch side made up of U13 ice-hockey players, the London Capitals.
Fireballs’ next major tournament will be a trip to the Storvreta Cup in Sweden which is usually attended by some 700 teams in a purpose-built floorball stadium.
Farnham’s coaches welcome new players to this mixed sport at their term-time sessions at Farnham Leisure Centre on Saturday afternoons.
