THERE was a huge police presence in Farnham on Sunday night as a man was arrested after an alleged assault and ’racially aggravated’ incident in the town centre.

Police were called to The Borough shortly after 11.30pm following reports of an assault in the street, just half an hour after England’s defeat to Italy was sealed in Sunday’s European Championships final.

An eye-witness’s photo of the scene shows four police cars in attendance, as well as two ambulances.

A Surrey Police spokesman said: “A 25 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm, racially aggravated public order, threats to kill and possession of class A drugs.

“South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended and provided medical assistance to a 58-year-old man at the scene.

"Enquiries continue.”
