Investigations are ongoing into a major fire which gutted a former care home between Petersfield and Liphook.

Cordons will remain in place around the Heathmount site in Rake due to concerns about the structural stability of the gutted building off the B2070 London Road.

Firefighters were called to the derelict building late on Tuesday evening with fire crews from multiple stations around Hampshire battling the blaze until dawn.

The fire was finally declared ‘out’ yesterday evening with the stop message being received at 9.40pm.

Firefighters revisited the building throughout the night to carry out further inspections and ensure there are no remaining hotspots.

London Road has also been reopened having been closed for much of Wednesday, but motorists and villagers should expect activity in the area with restrictions in place around the affected site.

More updates to follow.
