A PEACEFUL group is hopeful of breaking the £1million mark with its latest fundraising campaign for the Royal British Legion.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association (AMEA) teamed up with the RBL to launch the local Poppy Appeal at Penns Place last Monday. 

The association raised £30,000 in the district last year for the good cause and has set its sights on hitting the £1million nationally as they fell just short in 2022 with £900,000.

“The charitable work the AMEA carries out within East Hampshire is greatly appreciated by our residents, councillors and the various organisations they continue to support,” said district council chairman, Cllr Anthony Williams.

Muhammad Luqman Chaudhary, Regional Chair Charity Walk For Peace, said: “We hope we are able to raise much-needed funds for both the British Legion’s Poppy Appeal and other worthy charitable organisations here in the UK.”
