AS posters go up around the town to advertise Alton's Diamond Jubilee celebrations, plans are afoot for the revival of the Alton Carnival.

Last held in the mid-1990s, when it was run by the Alton Lions, this year's Carnival is to be themed 'Sixty Glorious Years'.

Taking place on Sunday, June 3, the procession is expected to leave The Butts at 5pm and travel along Butts Road, through the High Street, Normandy Street and Anstey Road to finish in Anstey Park, where there will be a fete and Funfair, finishing at 10pm with a fireworks display.

The cavalcade will be lead by the Horndean Band, followed by the Carnival Queen and her attendants, who are set to be crowned following a competition co-ordinated by the Alton Herald.
