The Alton Concert Band’s annual autumn concert supported Cardiac Rehab as it celebrated its 25th anniversary.
The programme got off to a stirring and appropriate start with Philip Sparke’s Music For A Festival, and the Alton Maltings Centre resounded again later with Holst’s Second Suite For Military Band and Ross Roy by Jacob de Haan.
The band, conducted by a delighted Jeremy Morrish, also came up with audience favourites such as a selection from The Incredibles and John Barry’s soundtrack for Dances With Wolves, show numbers from South Pacific and film tunes by Ennio Morricone.
After sing-along medleys Sinatra! and Gershwin! Rob Wiffin’s Shadow Of Autumn was a quieter, reflective note. Then the Winchester Flute Choir, conducted by Sarah Craven, brought some Sound Of Music and California Dreamin’.
