The deputy leader of East Hampshire District Council’s Liberal Democrats has revealed that she made a bid to be the party’s candidate in the East Hampshire constituency for the next general election.
Cllr Emily Young, who represents Alton Westbrooke, had set up a website promoting her campaign, which reverted to being a private site when Petersfield Lib Dem Dominic Martin was reselected.
She said: “We’ve just completed the selection process, and I did stand. That was my selection website. I wasn’t successful.”
Cllr Young did not rule out a future bid. She said: “I would consider running as a parliamentary candidate again - although if Dominic is successful he’ll probably be automatically reselected.
“Running a selection campaign was a good experience and I got a lot out of it.”
