A NEW production by Alton Fringe Theatre tells the story of renowned Selborne naturalist Gilbert White.

Simon Applegarth wrote and directed ZigZag for White’s 300th birthday in 2020, but it will now mark the company’s return to live performance.

He has been an enthusiast of White’s work for years after moving to the area and reading Richard Mabey’s biography of him.

Simon said: “Over time, my interest in and research on Gilbert grew and I was surprised to find how much confusion and inaccuracy surrounded the details of his life.

“In ZigZag I have endeavoured, I hope in an entertaining way, to dispel some of the myths that surround the man and explore why Gilbert’s book The Natural History of Selborne is so enduringly popular.”

The words will be accompanied by pictures, live music and song. The show at Alton College’s Wessex Arts theatre is on March 25 at 7.30pm. For tickets visit www.ticketsource.co.uk/alton-fringe-theatre
