A pensioner from Alton could be facing imprisonment after admitting to a host of historic child abuse charges.

James McKell pleaded guilty to nine counts when he appeared before Basingstoke Magistrates Court this morning (Tuesday, May 13).

The 81-year-old of Ackender Road admitted to seven counts of non-penetrative sexual activity with a boy under the age of 16 at an address in Alton during the 2000s.

He also pleaded guilty to two counts of sexually assaulting a male with the offences taking place in Alton and Four Marks around the same period.

The court heard McKell was previously a person of good character but there had been a breach of trust, with pre-sentence reports being requested.

McKell, who will be sentenced next month, was released on conditional bail. He must make not make any unsurprised contact with persons under the age of 18 or any contact with the complainant, who cannot be named for legal reasons.
