An afternoon garden party was the occasion for the annual handover of Alton Rotary Club’s presidency.

Outgoing president Sandra Howard presented president-elect Mike Sanders with his chain of office and wished him and the club well for the year ahead.

Mike thanked Sandra for steering the club through what had been a difficult year because of Covid, with many meetings conducted remotely by Zoom.

Mike said the club would be working to develop its existing projects, such as Lend with Care, the international development scheme, and the locally-based Mudhouse charity, which works to improve living conditions in northern Tanzania.

The club would also be supporting local community organisations such as The Kings Arms, Rehab and Broadlands Riding for the Disabled, and organising youth competitions for young photographers, chefs and technology.

He said the club would continue to back Rotary International’s Polio Eradication Programme and the Rotary Foundation, which is one of the world’s largest charities and which spends $1 million a day on sustainable community projects around the world such as village water wells.

Mike said: “If you feel you could help your community with organising or being hands-on with our projects through Rotary, please give me a call on 07808 093953 for a chat.”
