An Alton teenager hopes to raise £1,000 to fund day trips for Ukrainian families supported by the Farnham Homes for Ukraine group, by taking on The Hardest Hundred South Downs Beast cycle challenge on Sunday (July 10).

Edward Fitzpatrick needed just £70 to hit his target as the Herald went to press yesterday, and would love the backing of Herald readers online at https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/

Edward, 15, said: “My final challenge for the Duke of Edinburgh award is to undertake voluntary service and I have decided to fundraise for a local organisation that is supporting the Ukrainian families displaced by the Russian invasion of Ukraine and now living in the Farnham area.

“Farnham Homes for Ukraine (FHFU) was set up to link prospective sponsors in the local Farnham community who are able to provide a safe home for Ukrainian families forced from their country.

“I want to help the children of these families to settle in to life in the Farnham area by raising money to pay for tickets for them to enjoy activities and day trips.”

The Hardest Hundred South Downs Beast challenge will see Edward cycle 109km with an elevation of 1,380m over the demanding South Downs hills. He says it will be his “longest and toughest ride yet”.
