A selfish fly-tipper could have caused a major accident after dumping a huge pile of household items and fittings across a rural lane near Clanfield.

That is the view of Cllr Tony Costigan as Hinton Manor Lane was closed on Wednesday after a pile containing bathroom materials, DVDs and discarded cupboards with distinctive door hands was dumped on the single-track road.

“The people who caused this don’t care about other people,” said the EHDC portfolio holder for Neighbourhood Quality.

“Dumping things like this on an unlit back road could have led to a major accident, and it’s only by luck it didn’t.”
