HOME-START Winchester’s senior co-ordinator has been to Buckingham Palace for a garden party, having been nominated by the family support charity’s Patron Alison Wakeham.

Anne Macpherson, who lives in Longwood, Owslebury, south of Alresford, took husband Angus and daughter Myrtle.

“We had a great view of the beefeaters and then the royals on the terrace,” said Anne.

“All the gentlemen took off their top hats at the same moment. The Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Michael of Kent were all there and Princess Anne was behind me milling in the crowd.”

And Anne added: “The tea was delicious. We walked around the whole garden and lake (40 acres) and you certainly feel very special.”
