FOLLOWING the discovery of the remains of Richard III under a Leicester car park, there is speculation surrounding a Winchester churchyard which is thought could contain the body of King Alfred the Great.
A spokesman for the Diocese of Winchester said it had long been thought that St Bartholomew's Church in Hyde could be the resting place of the king of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Wessex, considered to be one of the outstanding figures of English history.
