ALRESFORD Art Society has been forced to change the dates of its current programme because of they clash with home fixtures at the town’s football club.

Society chairman Sue Gentry said: “We have discovered that Alresford Town Football Club matches will now be played on Wednesday nights and will clash with many of our meetings.

“Plainly this is a problem as on match nights you can’t get into the car park at Alresford Recreation Centre and the noise on and off the pitch makes the evening impossible.

“We plan two years ahead and the speakers, demonstrators and tutors need to be booked well in advance. We will now have to meet at different times or on different days.

“On one occasion we have actually lost a speaker as they are unable to cater for the last minute change.”

The society has now revised its programme.

Mrs Gentryn added: “We are so grateful to the bar manager at Alresford Recreation Centre who gave us the heads up about the clash, otherwise many of our 150 members would have turned up to our September meeting and wouldn’t have been able to get into the car park. It is embarrassing and frustrating for the society.”

The art society’s scheduled October 26 meeting will now be held at the recreation centre on Tuesday, October 25, at 7.30pm and the November, January, February and March meetings will now be held at 2.30pm at the same venue on the dates already published.
