Top brass from the Arts Council England visited The Phoenix Theatre and Arts Centre in Bordon on January 21.

It welcomed chief executive Darren Henley, plus Helen Birchenough, Phil Gibby and Simon Jutton, respectively chair, area director and senior relationship manager of the Arts Council England South West.

A Phoenix spokesperson said: “The members of Arts Council England joined us for our community coffee morning, where we raised money for Just 4 Kids, enjoying a warm drink and a selection of home-made baked goods.

“We also previewed a video showcasing the events we have hosted in the past year, featuring original music from local musician Holly Hunt.

“We thank the members of Arts Council England for joining us and look forward to hosting them again soon.”

In November the Arts Council England awarded National Portfolio Organisation status to the Phoenix, which came with funding of £81,233 per year for three years from 2023 to 2026.

The Phoenix was chosen for its dedication and skill at bringing the arts into the local community and working with young people and disadvantaged groups.

Mr Gibby described the Phoenix as a “welcoming venue” which was “an important part of Hampshire’s cultural life”. Phoenix director Rob Allerston said he was “excited by the opportunities this will unlock”.
