IT’S an event that children love to take part in and this year’s Alton Horticultural Society scarecrow competition produced some imaginative entries.
Although it was a competitive event for the youngsters, it was also fun and included many impressive entries such a surfboarding scarecrow.
But you didn’t have to make a model to get involved, you could join the competition at Alton Assembly Rooms and draw or paint a scarecrow. Each entrant won a plant.
At the prizegiving, the winners of the individual class were Poppy and Stanley whose scarecrow had a football theme, second were Lacey and Indy, and third Finlay and Seren.
Alton Infant School won the group category, ahead of Happy Talk Nursery in second place, while Alton Brownies were third.
The overall winners of this year’s scarecrow competition, part of Alton in Bloom, was the infant school exhibit and the children will hold the Scarecrow Trophy for the next 12 months.
Alton Horticultural Society spokesman Janice Mayhew said: “Well done to all the children who entered and to everyone who took part.
“We hope to see you all again next year on the last Saturday in June.”
