ALTON Town Council has agreed to ban the launch of Chinese lanterns from its sites.

The decision follows a plea from the National Farmers Union which has called for an outright ban on flying Chinese lanterns because of ongoing concerns about the risks posed to animal welfare, food safety and the environment.
