An award-winning brass band will be on the toot this weekend in Petersfield as they’re following up a competition win in the West Country with a charity concert.

The Liss Band have consolidated their position as one of the finest groups of their kind in the UK having won another award at the Bandamonium Brass Band Festival.

So expect to be blown away this Saturday as they’re joining forces with The Petersfield Community Choir for a Last Afternoon of The Proms show in Festival Hall.

The Bandamonium event in Devon was one of the greatest triumphs in the band’s history last year as the 52-year-old group won the People’s Choice award.

The going was even tougher this time around in Hatherleigh with a record-breaking 30 bands from around the UK performing a 20-minute set at several venues in the small town north of Okehampton.

“This was the largest event so far and it culminated in a massed band concert in the evening in Hatherleigh,” said Liss Band member, Phil Carline.

“Each band was adjudicated on its performance and we set our theme on romance and murder at the New Orleans Mardi Gras.

“And guess what? We took home the People’s Choice award for the second year running.

“The Band are already planning next year’s trip as we’re now looking to go for the hat-trick.”

Now firmly back on home soil, The Liss Band are turning their focus to supporting local good causes along with the Petersfield Community Choir.

The pair will perform a Proms-themed set from 3pm this Saturday (October 4) in a concert in aid of The Rosemary Foundation, The Kings Arms, and The Crossover Youth Centre in Liss.

Tickets for the event sponsored by Sarah Quirk Wealth Associates are £12 (£6 concessions) from www.festivalhall.co.uk
