POLICE have issued a warning after an 80-year-old woman fell victim to a distraction scam in a supermarket car park.
As she went to get in her car at Sainsbury’s Alton on September 14, she was approached by a man in his 60s who distracted her by asking for directions on a map. While he was doing this another person took her bank card from her purse in the car.
The man was described as being of “eastern European appearance”.
A police spokesman said: “Please be aware of this type of scam and do share this information with other people, particularly the elderly. Please do not write down your pin number and/or keep it with your bank card.
“And please remember to protect your pin number when withdrawing money from cashpoints.”
“Also, be aware of who is around you when you are making a withdrawal,” the spokesman added.
