THE clocks go back on Sunday to herald a return to Greenwich Mean Time.
It will mean an extra hour in bed as the country sticks to the tradition of changing the clocks to give more light in the mornings during the winter months.
This year, as the days draw in, Hampshire County Council has launched a new campaign to remind children and their parents of the importance of being visible to traffic.
Entitled Your Time to Shine, the safety message is ‘be bright, be seen’ on the roads during the dark winter days.
Hampshire County Council is advising people walking or cycling near traffic to wear reflective clothing, and to make sure bike lights are clean and in good working order.
Mr Humby continued: “To highlight the importance of pedestrians and cyclists making sure they can be seen by all drivers, we’ve invited schools to swap school uniform for bright clothing for a day.”
More than 50 schools around Hampshire, many of which have junior road safety officers, are taking part in the ‘Be Bright Be Seen’ non-uniform day which encourages children to dress as brightly as possible to make themselves more visible to drivers.
Activities in schools will include assemblies, poster designing for noticeboards, arts and crafts, role play, and poetry.
