A MILITARY charity that supports veterans and serving personnel that have lost limbs, or the use of limbs, are looking for people across the UK to sign up to Blesma Week and hold a fundraising event in their area.

The week kicks off on Monday, June 5, and will include a bucket collection at London Bridge Tube station. Throughout the week there will be bake sales, barbecues, pub quizzes, and other bucket collections at selected London Underground stations.

On Thursday, June 8, the Inter-services T20 cricket match will take place at Lord’s cricket ground with the Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy teams competing against each other. Blesma is the official charity for the day.

Last year, the week raised more than £50,000 and included events such as a 100-mile cycle ride, barbecues and a 24-hour hand-bikeathon. This year, the charity’s fundraising team is hoping to hit the same target.

Another way to support Blesma Week is to buy grand prize draw tickets at £1 each. The first prize is £1,000.

Zanika Fearon, Blesma’s community and events fundraising manager, said: “We are looking for as many people as possible to help us raise awareness and money for injured veterans.

“Without fundraising events we wouldn’t be able to carry on with the vital work we do, so please come to us with your ideas, or get in touch and let us inspire you.”
