ALTON Society management committee member Bob Booker was at the Wey Valley Radio studio last week, at the rear of Alton Assembly Rooms, to present a cheque for £200 to radio chairman and presenter David Wey.

Mr Booker said: “Supporting Wey Valley Radio ties in with our promoting community projects for the benefit of Alton. Most of us remember fondly the original Wey Valley Radio and the new station is a real asset to the town. It is great to have our radio broadcaster back.”

And he added: “The programmes cover a wide range of genres, including popular and classical music, and they are packed with local information as well as debates on local issues.

“We know the station is desperate for some new equipment, especially headphones (a number of the current ones have been borrowed), and this grant will help with the purchase of new ones and other items.”

In thanking the Alton Society, Mr Way said: “We are very grateful for the donation from the Alton Society which has been put to good use to improve our studio facilities, and we are delighted to support many local groups in Alton such as the Alton Society by providing information and publicity to our audience in the Alton area.”
