Drinkers supped to help the Bordon Foodbank when a beer and cider festival was held at the Tap@The Shed last weekend.

There were 30 beers and ciders to sample, with most coming from breweries within 20 miles of Bordon.

The Tap is a craft beer pub so there were some exotic brews to try, such as a Cherry Sour and a Mango IPA, along with more traditional ales.

Money was raised through ticket sales and by 14 local companies each sponsoring the festival with a £100 donation.

Edward Spice, director and owner of the Tap@The Shed, said: “Tap@The Shed’s first beer festival was a great success last weekend, with the business raising £2,500 for the Bordon Foodbank.

“Opening the festival on both Friday and Saturday was town mayor Cllr Leeroy Scott, and Cllr Andy Tree was in attendance for the Saturday evening.

“It was a wonderful weekend full of fun and beer, with some great local bands entertaining everyone. Thank you to all those who attended and sponsored the festival, and I am delighted with how much we managed to raise for the foodbank.

“Helping me, Becs and the Tap staff was Simon Sharpe of S.E.Electrical in Bordon. Simon’s family, who ran the real ale and cider part of the festival, volunteered their time for free.”

Bordon Foodbank is the town mayor’s chosen charity for 2022-23. On both nights Cllr Scott was served the first beer and made an opening speech in which he said: “Welcome and enjoy, be good to yourselves and everyone else.”

Cllr Tree said: “I was very happy to attend and support this fabulous event for such a good cause, the Bordon Foodbank. It was very well organised by Ed and the team at Tap@The Shed.”

Bonnie Wright, assistant manager of the Tap@The Shed, said: “It was a really fun weekend with everyone in such good spirits. I am looking forward to organising next year’s festival already.”

Maureen Holden, of the Bordon Foodbank, said: “Thank you to all who supported this, from a grateful foodbank.”

The sponsors were All About Flooring, In Car Technology, Mad About Bookkeeping, The Big Biscuit Company, Pizzeria Campana, Siam Oishi, S.E.Electrical, 350 Burger, Dylan’s Ice Cream, SiGNAL, Headcase, the Whitehill & Bordon Regeneration Company, The Cyder House Inn and Barred.
