Golf is a difficult game to master, but that didn’t put off Maurice Flitcroft.

In The Phantom Of The Open (12A), showing at The Phoenix Theatre and Arts Centre in Bordon on December 6 at 2.30pm, Maurice dons a diamond-patterned tank top and takes on the best despite never having played a round in his life.

This comedy-drama, based on a true story, sees Maurice somehow manage to gain entry to The Open qualifying in 1976.

It follows one man’s unwaveringly confident, heart-warming and hilarious attempts to compete at the highest level of golf, proving that if you shoot for the stars you really can achieve the impossible.

The film stars Mark Rylance, Sally Hawkins and Rhys Ifans.
