ALTON Town Council’s open spaces committee has confirmed that work is “progressing well” on the provision, by Molson Coors, of a new outdoor bowls club on Chawton Park Road.

The project is part of a condition of planning on the Coors sports ground site which requires Molson Coors, as the owner to the ground, to compensate for the loss of sporting facilities – in this case the loss of a site for Alton Social Bowling Club.

The new facility, on a plot of open space between the Hawkins Guide headquarters and Alton Sports Centre, will provide an outdoor bowling pitch and pavilion.

The turf for the new pitch was delivered in November and the build should be completed in April.
