THREE senior boys in the 2nd Alton Boys’ Brigade Company held an afternoon tea to help Ukrainian refugees which raised £927.23.
Andrew Bentley, Jacob Gibbs and Ollie Funnell, all aged 16, stayed on after their Friday evening meeting to bake in the Alton Methodist Church kitchen. By 2.30am they had made flapjack, cupcakes, a coffee sponge, brownies and chocolate chip cookies.
They returned to the church just after midday, to find tables had been set and a large number of extra cakes and biscuits had been provided by church well-wishers, and started serving at 2pm.
The money raised was sent off via the British Red Cross to the Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine appeal. Further direct donations took the total to more than £1,000.
