Newbury Building Society has raised more than £2,000 for Alton Foodbank.

Sammy Forrester, manager of the society’s Alton branch, presented a cheque for £2,165.52 to Ian Dane and Moya Pamplin from Alton Foodbank earlier this month.

Employees from the Alton branch undertook fundraising activities throughout 2021, including walking 89.2 miles each in September.

Members also got involved by purchasing the society’s calendar, making donations in the branch and taking part in a Christmas hamper prize draw.

A proportion of the funds also came from the society’s charity savings accounts.

Members who open this account can nominate one of nine partner charities to which the society makes an annual donation based on the savings balances.

Ian Dane, the project manager at Alton Foodbank, said: “The Newbury Building Society and Alton Foodbank have worked together for many years to support people in Alton and the surrounding
villages.

“The local staff not only fundraise on our behalf but also pack Christmas boxes for our clients and host a food drop-off point in their branch.

“We really appreciate the kindness and generosity of the Newbury team.”

Ms Forrester was pleased to support Alton Foodbank again in 2021: “It has been great to support Alton Foodbank for another year, and knowing the pandemic would have affected families more than ever before I feel so proud that as a branch we have been able to raise funds and support the foodbank.

“Being able to fundraise and volunteer is a great achievement, and I know I speak on behalf of my whole team when I say the foodbank is a great cause to be supporting and we look forward to continuing the support this year.”

Alton Foodbank is the charity partner of the Newbury Building Society’s Alton branch.
