BULKY waste collections are set to re-start across East Hampshire from Monday (May 18).

Bookings for bulky waste collections were suspended in March due to the need for East Hampshire District Council and Norse South East to prioritise rubbish and recycling collections, during the peak of the coronavirus.

Restrictions will be in place to ensure the safety of residents and the collection crews.

Once booking is complete, residents will be asked to leave their items outside their property on a specified day.

Councillor Richard Millard, leader of East Hampshire District Council, said: “At the beginning of this pandemic we took the decision to prioritise our collections, with rubbish, recycling and clinical waste being the most important.

“I’d like to thank everyone for their patience during this very challenging time and particularly to the crews at Norse South East who have adapted extremely well to the current ways of working.

“We are now in a position to re-start our bulky waste collections; however, we do ask that residents help us in staying alert and notifying us if anyone in their household has been affected with the virus at the time of booking.

“This will be a limited service to begin with, with working practices being kept under review in line with government guidance on social distancing.”

Limited booking will be available, with a review taking place on a fortnightly basis.

Households where any occupant has recently had coronavirus or is showing symptoms and are in isolation should inform the council at the time of booking and advice will be given on how items will be collected.
