A touch of Hollywood is coming to East Hampshire as an award-winning film and TV make-up artist with Star Wars on her CV is giving a village pub a Michelin star makeover.
After a closure of several months the till is ringing again at The Five Bells as Sallie and Paul Adams have taken over the Buriton pub.
Sallie has been a personal make-up designer for the likes of Faye Dunaway and Brooke Shields during a 50-year career while her film resume includes The Star Wars Trilogy, Flick and Oscar Wilde.
She’s also worked on BAFTA-award winning shows and numerous Agatha Christie adaptations, along with productions with who’s who of acclaimed British actors, from David Suchet and Timothy Dalton to Martin Clunes, Stephen Graham and Robbie Coltrane among so many others.
But away from the limelight, Sallie and Paul have a sideline in taking over and reviving pubs with previous sales including Tom Kerridge’s Hand in Flowers in Marlow.
“Taking on pubs is a hobby,” said the former Pub With No Name publican.
“The Five Bells is a beautiful pub, but it’s needed a bit of TLC. There’s so much potential here.
“We’re only just getting started and have only just reopened because we’ve been painting and decorating, but we want to make it the place to be.”
For a couple with Hollywood connections there’s also a star factor to the cuisine as Matt Noonan, head chef of the acclaimed but now-closed Michelin star Black Rat in Winchester, will be serving up a treat to villagers.
“He’s very keen on local produce – we’re very lucky,” said Sallie, with plans for a vegetable plot in the pipeline.
The pub is currently only serving drink but the couple hope to offer food from July 25. Look for Five Bells 2025 on Facebook for more details.
