THE CANCELLATION of this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show deprived many of a great British tradition, and upset a year of planning and growing for exhibitors.
One of those impacted, West End Flower Farm in Upper Froyle, was left with a lot of flowers that would have usually been used over the Chelsea week and the very real prospect of these magnificent floral displays going to waste.
But to boost customers’ spirits – and just because they could – West End instead collaborated with Simon Lycett, celebrity florist and judge of Netflix programme The Big Flower Fight, and Farnham-based top wedding florist Hannah Berry Flowers to create a flower-filled tractor, which was available to be viewed throughout Friday and Saturday of last week.
West End Kitchen and Flower Farm have had to adapt during the pandemic and is now growing some vegetables instead of flowers, as well as stocking fellow local producers’ vegetables, cheese, trout, brownies, their own eggs and a lot more for customers to buy.
It has become an essential farm shop to many, especially with the bonus of takeaway coffee, picnics and, coming soon, grab-and-go lunches, to be enjoyed on their grounds or off.
Next week sees another change at West End – Hannah, of Hannah Berry Flowers, has agreed to become part of the team as ‘the florist’ and West End will be offering professional bouquets online for home delivery or collection in the shop.
Bella Butler, of West End Flower Farm, Kitchen and B&B, said: “Hannah is an extremely talented florist and will be using all the blooms from the farm this summer.”
