PUPILS and staff at Anstey Junior School held a charity ‘red, blue and white’ dress-down day and cake sale recently.

The day raised just under £500 for the World Wildlife Fund’s Australian bushfire appeal.

After watching a Newsround clip in assembly about the devastating effect the bushfires are having on wildlife, two Year 6 pupils asked their new headteacher, Emma Humphrey, if they could do something to help.

Ms Humphrey said: “It was an easy decision to want to support the girls in helping the poor animals and we quickly came up with the great idea of having our very own Australia Day!”
