A man whose £18,000 Rolex watch was stolen from a locker at David Lloyd Farnham is calling on the company to do more to prevent similar incidents.

Dr Amir Savage, 55, said he placed the watch in a locker at the health and fitness club before working out early on Monday, February 3.

He said he secured it using a combination padlock supplied by the club, but when he returned, the watch had been taken, with no sign of forced entry.

Dr Savage, a dentist who lives in Alton, said police told him such locks can be picked. The officer dealing with his case also said similar thefts had been reported at David Lloyd in Farnham and elsewhere.

Emails seen by the Herald show police requested CCTV footage and access data from the club as part of their investigation. The footage had not yet been provided at the time of writing.

Dr Savage said he was concerned by how easily someone had accessed his locker and called on management to take steps to reduce the risk of further incidents.

He said: “Although warning notices referring to ‘opportunists’ are present, they are not prominently displayed and, in my view, are inadequate given what I understand to be previous thefts on the premises.

“I’m not expecting them to replace my watch, but to assist the police and to warn people more of the possibility of theft. It might be too late for me but if they take steps to make it safer for others, I’ll take that as a win.”

Dr Savage submitted a Freedom of Information request to Surrey Police, which showed there had been 29 thefts at David Lloyd facilities across Surrey since the start of 2025, with members losing almost £100,000 worth of property.

David Lloyd Farnham was approached for comment but had not responded at the time of publication.
