AN Alton woman is urging neighbours to be vigilant after her cat died when it was torn apart by a dog.
Yvonne Lyons said her pet, Gizmo, was in her garden in Wincanton Close, when a dog off its lead ran in from nearby fields and chased it on to a neighbouring property.
Having corned its prey, the dog, described as a “medium-sized collie cross” with “wavy, black fur”, proceeded to attack.
Yvonne said there was “no way” she could have “even got Gizmo to the vet” as there was “nothing left” of the cat.
The dog fled back into the fields, so it is possible the owner isn’t aware of the incident.
When she contacted the police, Yvonne was told it wasn’t a criminal matter.
But she fears the dog may attack another pet or, worse, a child.
