FOUR Alton children used up the last of their Easter holidays to raise money for Cancer Research by selling off treasured books and games from a front garden on The Butts.
And they raised a handy £112 for their efforts.
They had alerted potential buyers by putting up a brightly coloured poster on a lamppost outside their respective houses announcing the fundraising sale before using the pathway to display their wares alongside a neatly written price list.
The youngsters, five-year-old Harriet Sansom and her brother Elliott,10, and friends eight-year-old Emmie and Maisy Sheridan, 10, who live next door, decided they wanted to do something to help fight cancer after hearing that a family member and a friend of the family had had the illness.
The “pop up” fundraising came as a surprise to Sonia Sansom, who said: “I went to the hairdressers and when I came back the children had their books and toys on the path and the notice on the lamppost.”
The children said they had only planned to do their fund raising for a day but decided to do it over the weekend to raise as much money as they could.
Maisy dedicated the sale to her nan while Elliott added that one of his mum’s friends has cancer “and we want to help”.
The youngsters took the money they raised to the Cancer Research Shop.
