Visitors to a music festival at a Hampshire village pub are being urged to bring cash with them after a fallen tree created broadband chaos.
The Yew Tree in Lower Wield is gearing up for its Summer Jam 25, a three-day event spread over two weekends featuring a wide variety of bands.
It starts at 5pm on August 8 with 80s Decade, Stomping Boondocks and Let’s Party! Music begins at 4pm on August 9 when the line-up is Revival, Key Lime Pi and Alex. The festival will be rounded off by Dreamin’ of Nashville at 5pm on August 15.
But the tree is threatening to cause a nightmare for staff and frustration for revellers if people try to pay for food and drink by modern methods.
Kevin Siggs, The Yew Tree’s neighbour, explained: “On the night of July 14, a tree brought down our phone lines and put out our electricity. Scottish and Southern were straight on the case with that and everything was back to normal in 24 hours - I’d like to congratulate them.
“On July 16 a man from Openreach came and tidied up their cables which had been hanging across our drives and gateways. Since then there has been lots of talk and no action. At least five engineers have been out. I will receive an update on August 8.
“For me it’s an irritation, for the pub next door it’s big trouble. Mobile signals aren’t great out here. They process all their payments through the broadband connection and are currently struggling to do this through 4G. This coming weekend they have an event with three bars - two outside - and don’t know how they’re going to cope.”
Yew Tree owners Matt and Jas Clarke said: “Openreach is not doing much. We can take card payments, it is just very slow - so spreading the word about cash is fantastic for us.”
