Drivers are being urged to avoid Castle Street in Farnham after the road was closed in both directions following a significant water leak caused by a burst water main.
The incident was first reported to highways contractor Ringway during the afternoon on Friday, June 26, with repair specialists from Clancy later called to the scene to carry out emergency works.
A noticeable bulge has appeared in the road surface as a result of the burst pipe, while a small discharge of water can be seen outside Bills. The damage prompted the closure of Castle Street to vehicles in both directions as crews assessed the situation and made the area safe.
Pedestrian access is being maintained, although people in the area are being asked to follow instructions from emergency services and contractors working at the scene.
Repair work is expected to take place overnight, with water supplies due to be isolated only after nearby businesses have closed for the day in an effort to minimise disruption to trade. Officials are understood to be hopeful that repairs can be completed before Saturday morning.
Those involved in the response were made aware of the upcoming Farnham Carnival, underlining the urgency of completing the work and reopening the road as quickly as possible.
There is currently no official confirmation of when Castle Street will reopen, although further updates are expected as repair work progresses.
