MEDSTEAD WI has celebrated 100 years as a club with a reminder of its role in history over lunch and the cutting of a special anniversary cake.

Held at Medstead village hall on June 28, the occasion commemorated the first meeting of Medstead WI on that same day in 1918.

So it was that 70 members and guests from the local Austen Group of WIs, of which Medstead is a part, joined with Hampshire WI president Maureen Levenson and WI adviser Denise Sutton on a glorious summer’s afternoon to enjoy a short but informative and amusing presentation of the history of Medstead WI, from its inception to the present day.

Everyone received a commemorative gift and the afternoon ended with Mrs Levenson cutting the cake which was then eaten with a glass of fizz and a toast to the future of the great WI movement.
