SMALL patches of land owned by East Hampshire District Council can now be turned into wild flower havens.
Volunteers can apply to turn areas of mown grass into eye-catching paradises for pollinating insects.
The Alton Villages and Local Action Network (AVLAN) showed the way on a verge off Butts Road and Borovere Gardens.
With council permission and a £500 equipment and plants grant from Cllr Ginny Boxall, AVLAN – which will take over a site in Holybourne next month – turned it into a project which won a national award from the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.
Cllr Boxall said: “It looks wonderful and attracts ladybirds, bees and myriad insects.”
