Veterans have raised a glass to an Alton pub after it raised £2,065 for the Poppy Appeal.

There were cheers for The White Horse after they handed over the cheque to Dan Smith of the Royal British Legion following several weeks of fundraising.

One of the biggest events at the High Street pub was an auction of donated bottles on Remembrance Sunday with bids for two special tipples exceeding £500.

There was also a raffle while patron and tree surgeon Jonny Boyd raised nearly £650 for the good cause by running the South Downs half marathon.

“The RBL is a cause that is close to my heart and I know it’s close to the hearts of a lot of my customers,” said landlady, Amber Button.

“I’m delighted that we’re able to contribute in the way we have. I’m proud of all of my customers for getting behind the Poppy Appeal.”
