A CHOIR from Bentley School filled Alton High Street with song last Friday morning as part of Santander bank’s charity drive to raise money for 15-year-old cancer sufferer Katie-Lily Bryant and the Piam Brown Ward at Southampton Hospital.

The choir, led by teacher Becky Miffling, sang in bright sunshine in front of a large crowd outside Santander ’s High Street branch.

Amery Hill School pupil Katie-Lily, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma in June, was due to be at the fundraiser but was unwell, having only just left hospital, but her mum, Helen, was there along with grandparents Jan and Maurice Bryant, from Bentley.

They and her stepdad, Paul, and stepbrother, Alfie, have been supporting Katie-Lily through gruelling chemotherapy sessions that have had some success.

Mrs Bryant said: “The treatment has got rid of the cancer in her neck but her chest isn’t clear yet and she may have to have some radiotherapy. It has been a worrying time for us all and I can’t tell you how moved and grateful I am to Santander and to those who have given so generously.

“My husband has also done his share of fundraising by running a 12-hour darts marathon with 23 others, and so far they have raised £18,000 for Katie and Southampton Hospital.”

Inside Santander’s premises there were cakes, all donated, including several trays from Jan and Maurice, along with refreshments and a raffle. Courtney Tallent, of Farnham’s Breeze Hairdressers, along with Taylor Griffiths, was offering styling or cutting for just £5 – with all money going to the fund.

Santander’s Karen Ledger, who like all the staff were wearing Southampton Hospital T-shirts, said the bank was pleased to be running the two-day event and raising money for two such good causes.

Santander has promised to double the £1,200 which was raised over the two days.
