While many grown-ups were recovering from Christmas parties last weekend, a hardy group of volunteers arrived at Hogmoor Inclosure to set up for the junior parkrun Christmas special.

Event director George Longland was relieved to find weather conditions close to ideal – especially coming after a few weeks of freezing temperatures.

“The forecast was for heavy rain so all eyes had been glued to the skies in the days leading up to the event,” she said.

“But we were absolutely blessed that the rain held off and the temperatures were relatively mild compared to recently.”

More than 40 young runners and walkers were supported by friends, family and volunteers who helped create a festive feel to the morning. A report and more pictures will appear in the Herald next week.
