Campaigners trying to save Alton’s Palace Cinema are pleading for more people to sign their petition.

The Guild of Optimists said: “Some 110 years of big screen magic ends this September as Alton’s Palace Cinema is due to close its doors for good.

“The site will be redeveloped and this huge part of Alton’s entertainment and cultural history will be lost forever.

“Although it’s a bit run down now the Palace Cinema has the potential to once again be an amazing asset for our entire community.

“A refurbished cinema would offer everyone in Alton – from our youngest residents to our oldest – somewhere to go every day of the week.

“Show prospective owners and our local councillors that we want and need the cinema to stay – sign our petition!”
