ALTON College music department sent its finest troops into battle and clinched top spot at the annual Southampton Solent Sound Music Festival.

The festival, held at Solent University, saw nine colleges across Hampshire and Wiltshire enter a ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition with a first prize of £200.

Alton College entered Electric Milk - one of the bands from the BTEC rock and pop music course.

The group, comprising Harrison Hoy, Charlie Vale, Will Reigate, Callum Hornby and Tom Luke, played three covers and an original song and were praised by judges.

“This was a great experience for our students to play in a professional setting,” said Alton College head of music Andy Light.

“I was extremely proud of the band, not only coming first but also their mature approach to the competition. They played very well and gained plaudits not only from the judges but also the other colleges.

“This is a testament to all the hard work that the staff put in to maintain high standards of musicianship across the department.”

Alton College music department offers a range of A-Level and BTEC music courses.

The next open day is on Thursday, July 5, from 3.30pm-8pm. Visitors can explore the campus and speak to teachers about the opportunities on offer.
