EVENTS and celebrations were held across the community to commemorate World Mental Health Day on October 10, helping to raise awareness of the important and topical subject.

Students from St Andrews School held a ‘Mindfulness Day’, which included a visit to space2grow, while Godalming College students launched a ‘Festival of Equality’ and donned yellow clothing, in line with the #HelloYellow campaign.

Also wearing the #HelloYellow colours were Tootsies Nursery, Bordon, where tiptoes and preschool children took part in a yoga and ‘mindfulness’ session with Karma Kidz.

Alton Community Centre also held a drop-in event organised by Mental Health in Alton, promoting “positive well-being” through holistic health, fitness and nutrition.

In Frensham, Squire’s Garden Centre hosted a ‘Plantathon’ across their branches, with Squire’s colleague Elaine Holmes planting containers for charities.

Sarah Squire, chairman of Squire’s Garden Centres, said: “As we all become more aware of the importance of taking care of our mental as well as our physical health, taking time to enjoy our gardens or local open space is a great home remedy available to all.”
