A community group has sounded out the reasons for the late postponement of a landmark festival in Bordon, blaming a late licensing issue for the difficult decision.

The Whitehill & Bordon Community Trust (WBCT) has once again apologised for postponing Hogfest with less than 24 hours’ notice.

No succinct reason was given at the time but the saga began with a development in the final risk assessment.

Given the ongoing high risk of wildfires, Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service were approached to confirm they were happy with arrangements at the Hogmoor Inclosure site.

They told the licensing team at East Hampshire District Council they were happy for the festival to go ahead, only for another issue to arise.

“It was during this final process that we identified an issue regarding the licence required for amplified music,” said a spokesperson for WBCT.

“Rather than disappoint people with a significantly scaled-down event without amplified music, we felt that simply going ahead with a reduced version wasn't right.

“Our priority is to deliver the event properly and give everyone the experience we had originally planned.

“We are now working closely with the EHDC licensing team to put everything in place and obtain the correct licence, with the aim of bringing the event to the community as soon as possible.”

The spokesperson added the decision was not taken lightly and that everyone involved was “naturally disappointed” that Hogfest was postponed.

They have thanked people for their understanding and support and have stressed they are looking forward to announcing a new date for the landmark event.

The spokesperson added: “The circumstances leading to the postponement were unforeseen, but we are determined to turn this into a positive and make sure that, when the event takes place, it is safe, properly licensed and something that everyone can enjoy.”
