A CONTROVERSIAL planning application by international brewing giant Molson Coors to demolish existing buildings and structures and erect 85 new dwellings on its Anstey Road sports ground has met with yet another stumbling block.

After more than a decade of different applications and approaches to the relocation of existing users of the former Bass Sports Ground, the current application, which was due to be determined today, has been temporarily withdrawn.

The reason, it seems, that at the 11th hour Sport England has dug its heels in over the replacement of a playing field lost by the proposed development, and is not yet satisfied over the protection of local sporting needs.
