Two applications for event grants have been approved by Alton Town Council.

The Alton Town Twinning Association asked for £1,000 to assist with the costs of a visit by between 20 and 30 people from Alton’s French twin town Pertuis.

At a town council meeting in the Assembly Rooms on December 10, a representative of the association said it hoped to revive participation of secondary school children in twinning, which was affected by Brexit and stopped by Covid. The application was approved by 11 votes to one, with one abstention.

The Alton Victorian Cricket Tournament requested £500 to pay for toilet hire costs - which have increased because of more people attending the event - and rubbish disposal. Its application was approved unanimously.
