HAMPSHIRE Police is appealing for witnesses after a cyclist was killed in a crash on the A31 near Four Marks on Friday.

A 61-year-old man sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision with a black Peugeot 207 on the dual-carriageway section of the A31 between Four Marks and Chawton, at around 5.45pm.

Both the car and the cyclist were on the eastbound carriageway when the crash happened.

The 62-year-old driver of the Peugeot was taken to Basingstoke Hospital for treatment to "non-life threatening injuries".

The road was closed in both directions for five hours for the recovery of the vehicle and for an investigation to take place, according to a police spokesman.

Hampshire Police is appealing for anyone who saw the car or the cyclist before the collision took place, or the collision itself, to come forward.

Anyone with information should call Sergeant Jim Chapman on 101, quoting Operation Octagon.
